HEAT: Approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of the activity, temperature and heat index reading should be taken at the site or from www.weather.com or a comparable source. The following are recommended guidelines for coaches, program leaders and volunteers to follow with regards to Department sponsored youth activities:
Heat Index: 80-89
Use caution; monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.
Heat Index: 90-104
Use extreme caution; remove helmets and other equipment if not involved in contact.
Heat Index: 105-129
Alter uniforms by removing items where feasible; practice should be shortened with low intensity & limited conditioning.
Heat Index: 130 & above
NO PRACTICES OR GAMES. ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE RESCHEDULED FOR EARLY/LATE IN DAY OR AN ALTERNATE DATE WHEN HEAT INDEX IS LOWER.

THUNDER & LIGHTENING POLICY
At the first sound of Thunder or the first sighting of Lightening - all activities are to be stopped and participates are to clear fields to a protected area and wait 30 minutes before activities are to resume. Any additional occurrence starts the 30 minute count over.
Weather Policy
When schools are closed or close early due to inclement weather, all recreation and parks activities for that day are cancelled with the exception of programs being held at private facilities or virtual programs/meetings. For weekend activities, if the snow emergency plan is in effect after 8pm Friday or anytime Saturday, all Saturday activities are cancelled. If the snow emergency plan is in effect after 8pm Saturday or anytime Sun- day, all Sunday activities are cancelled. This includes activities that occur at school sites, nature centers, New Windsor Community Room, South Carroll Senior & Community Center and the Robert Moton Center with the exception of programs being held at private facilities or virtual programs/meetings.

is in effect at 8 p.m. on the preceding day, all activities are canceled for
the non- school day.
If the snow emergency plan is lifted after 8
p.m. on the preceding day and a school would like an exception to hold an activity or event, they must contact their
school director. If he/she agrees that
the request rises to the level to warrant an exception, he/she will seek
superintendent approval. (Note: Exceptions will not be made for routine games
or practices. It must be an exceptional situation)
If the inclement weather begins on a
non-school day and the snow emergency plan never goes into effect, it is the
decision of the principal.
